Truth Picks

What's a Truth Pick you ask?

A Truth Pick is a short, sharp commentary designed to extract 'Truth' from a Quote, pithy saying, epigram or graffiti. I send these out whenever the muse strikes. My goal is to continue generating them as long as people keep reading them.

Truth Pick #180

If you want to build a ship,
don't drum up the men to gather wood,
divide the work and give orders.
Instead, teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea.
Antoine de Saint-Exupery

When a child sees another on a bike and dreams of themselves there, then the falls of first attempts fail as obstacles to progress.

Every setback is fuel for the will; the blocking of desire gives strength to it; each second of success confirms our ability to achieve.

To the child with no thought of riding, each fall and scrape is proof positive they cannot learn to ride the wind. Every attempt to be taught merely increases the determination to fail.

The ability to balance is made possible by desire, and is unattainable by the use of force.

For our actions to take us where we've never gone before, requires first that we've been there in our dreams. The more solitary our future destination, the greater the need for dreams of depth.

Dreams alone are never enough to move us forward, but without them, action only serves to fix us to the ground.

Dreams and vision are the passports to achievement.
