Greetings, welcome to another Peter de Jager
offering.
When I first became a manager, I suffered through an experience that I
thought was unique at the time, but which I've since sadly discovered is
all too common. Even though I was surrounded by managers of all levels of
expertise, I was expected to re-invent this thing called 'management' from
scratch. A waste of my time, and an equally painful experience for my
staff.
Over the years I've written about many different aspects of management.
Nothing too serious, just the simple stuff - how to delegate, hot to run a
meeting, manage a small project, manage my time, give feedback etc. etc.
I've selected a dozen or so of the more
popular articles, summarized the key points and collected them into a
single volume. This is not a technical perspective on management, it's not
intended for the MBA (although... ) it's intended for someone who is
starting out on their management journey. The goal? to provide the initial
guidance for those first few painful years as one begins to learn what'
involved in managing people. It's short, pithy, and according to
some... to the point.
Here's the book cover, the title is a rebus, I have this affinity for
visual humor.
